Early Head Start at CHOP gives low-income pregnant women and families the skills needed to enhance a child’s growth and development during the first three years of life.

As a caregiver, you are your child’s first teacher! Our mission is to help you succeed in that role by providing quality early childhood learning experiences and family support services. We want to give you the skills needed to enhance your child’s growth and development during their first three years of life.

We also provide access to community resources to support health and self-sufficiency in families, as well as enrichment activities for children with disabilities.

Services for children

  • Weekly home visits with hands-on child development activities

  • Inclusive environment for infants and toddlers with disabilities

  • Prenatal education, support and referrals
  • Health and nutrition education, support and referrals
  • Behavioral health and wellness education and support
  • Support for families who have children with disabilities
  • Various events, activities and volunteer opportunities
How to apply Early Head Start

Early Head Start services are available to pregnant women and families with children under the age of 3. To qualify, you must have a family income at or below the federal poverty guidelines and a permanent residence in identified areas of West Philadelphia.

The Community Nurse Advocacy Fellowship gives nurses the opportunity to step outside their CHOP roles and into the community, where their knowledge and skills are aimed at improving children’s health.
