Revenue Cycle Operations Administrative Fellowship

The Revenue Cycle Operations Administrative Fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is a two-year program. This fellowship program offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the complex relationship between revenue cycle management and clinical operations within a health system. The goal is to create a talent pipeline for critical revenue cycle positions. 

The Revenue Cycle Administrative Fellowship Program is housed within Revenue Cycle Operations (RCO) in the Division of Financial Services. RCO focuses on streamlining the revenue cycle through enhanced management insight and exposure of all aspects of revenue cycle management: Scheduling, Registration, Financial Clearance, Coding, Revenue Integrity, Reimbursement, Utilization Review, Billing, Collections, Managed Care Contracting, and Customer Service. Our program is designed to provide in-depth experience and knowledge of how revenue cycle financial management functions at all levels across the health system.

The fellow will be immersed in the revenue cycle through project-based work and shadowing rotations in the first year. Rotations in a more focused area in the revenue cycle will take place in the second year. Rotations in the following core areas will be included in the first year:

  • Service Access, Financial Clearance, and Registration  
  • Mid-Revenue Cycle Management (Coding, HIM, UR, and Revenue Recognition)
  • Billing/Collections

The fellow will have multiple opportunities to interact and participate with leadership and staff of all CHOP entities to enhance their education of how the CHOP contributes to clinical operations and our patients' healthcare experience.

Application and Selection

The Administrative Fellowship meets all of ACHE's criteria to participate as a program. Our goal is to find a candidate who will be the best fit for the organization and will benefit most from the experience.
The fellowship begins in July of each year. Ideal candidates for the position will meet the qualifications below.

Education requirements:

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree, attained within one year prior to application or upon completion of the fellowship required: such as Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Masters in health administration (MHA), Masters in Health Services Administration (MHSA), Masters in Public Health (MPH), or related field.  
  • Candidates with a master’s degree focused in healthcare administration from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) are preferred. 

Experience:

  • A strong interest in revenue cycle operations.
  • A foundational knowledge in the core competencies of healthcare administration
  • Health care industry experience such as an internship, externship, fellowship, or applicable employment highly desired.  
  • Record of leadership and teamwork, and demonstration of excellent verbal and written communication skills required. 

Other qualifications:

  • Possesses broad knowledge of current and historical perspectives in areas such as: healthcare business management, administration, clinical practice management, finance, human resources and/or information systems.  
  • Candidates must be self-starters willing to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, system environment.

Primary Executive Leadership Preceptor: Fabian Stone

Fabian Stone

Fabian Stone is the Vice President of Revenue Cycle at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. With over 25 years in healthcare leadership, Fabian Stone has an innovative focus on clinical and revenue cycle management. He excels in leading high-performance teams to achieve impactful, mission-driven results and implementing advanced financial strategies, all while prioritizing the patient experience. Before joining CHOP, Fabian held various leadership positions at the Duke University Health System, where he honed his expertise in optimizing revenue cycles and implementing advanced financial strategies. 

As the VP of Revenue Cycle at CHOP, he is currently leading the centralization of the hospital's revenue cycle structure, fostering a culture of transparency and inclusivity. Fabian is dedicated to advancing the use of technology and analytics to enhance operational efficiency and patient outcomes. In addition to his operational achievements, Fabian is dedicated to mentoring and developing future leaders in healthcare.

Current 1st Year Fellows

Aditi Patel

Aditi Patel

Aditi Patel recently graduated with her master's in health administration from the Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health in May of 2024. Prior to that, she received her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in Exercise and Sport Science and Public Policy with a minor in Health and Society. In the summer of 2023, Aditi worked at a boutique consulting firm doing revenue cycle management, identifying strategies for reducing avoidable write-offs and preventing denials. In this position, Aditi developed an interest in revenue cycle management, which drew her to this opportunity. Aditi is thrilled to start her journey as a Revenue Cycle Administrative Fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is grateful for the opportunity to work in a patient-centered pediatric health system and is eager to contribute to the well-being of children and their families. Aditi looks forward to taking full advantage of the fantastic learning opportunities provided by the fellowship, immersing herself in the unique challenges and rewards of pediatric healthcare.

Arjun Natarajan

Arjun Natarajan

Arjun Natarajan is an Administrative Fellow with the Revenue Cycle Operations department at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), joining the second fellowship cohort from 2024-2026. Coming from sunny California, Arjun is eager to build a new life in Philadelphia and contribute to protecting the health of children in his new community. He is an extremely versatile professional, having demonstrated competence in multiple roles across diverse healthcare environments. He received his undergraduate education at the University of California, Davis, majoring in Biotechnology with an emphasis on Microbiology and Fermentation. He completed a dual master’s MHA/MPH program at the Fairbanks School of Public Health (IUPUI, Indianapolis) during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a former behavioral therapist and STEM educator, Arjun is passionate about advocating for children's mental health and the importance of empathy, dedication, and resilience in healthcare. Recently, he has taken a keen interest in studying the revenue cycle associated with the behavioral health service line to better represent providers and patients.

Current 2nd Year Fellow

Mazen Oneissi, MD, MPH

Mazen Oneissi, MD, MPH

Mazen is our second-year administrative fellow. He joined our program after earning his Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins University, where he specialized in healthcare management and finance. Prior to transitioning to healthcare management, Mazen worked as a physician and genetics researcher at various institutions. Through this fellowship, he aims to bridge the gap between the clinical and financial aspects of healthcare, ensuring an excellent and well-rounded patient experience while maintaining the financial integrity of healthcare providers and institutions. In his free time, Mazen enjoys baking complex French pastries and sourdough.
