Nurse practitioner Emily Wilkinson, MSN, CRNP, CPNP-PC, is the newest member of the Congenital Hyperinsulinism Center team — but she’s not new to HI. In fact, some families that have had an inpatient stay in the last few years may have met her on 5 South, the endocrinology floor at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
Wilkinson has been with CHOP since 2019, right after she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing, which is where she also earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree.
In her four years on 5 South, she cared for many HI patients, along with children who had other endocrinology-related conditions.
“As a nurse, I loved taking care of the HI babies and families,” she says. “I think that they are such a special patient population, so I am very excited to be able to continue taking care of them in my new role. I am also excited to have more continuity with patients and see them as they grow up.”
In her new role as one of the HI Center’s nurse practitioners, Wilkinson will care for children both in the outpatient clinic and while they are inpatients.
“I think that my endocrinology inpatient experience brings a lot to the nurse practitioner role,” she says. "I have a good sense of what we are asking kids to do when it comes to fasts and inpatient testing. I have a positive attitude and can't wait to help guide patients and families through their diagnosis.”
Her nonworking life revolves around spending time with her husband and 8-month-old baby, and trying to squeeze in a run when she can.
