Department of Respiratory Care
Services provided by the Department of Respiratory Care at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia include but are not limited to:
- Ventilator and airway management
- Asthma care
- Secretion clearance
- Non-invasive ventilation
- Inhaled medications
- Specialty gas delivery
- Bronchoscopies
- ECMO
- Research
- Patient and family education
- Supportive counseling for tobacco cessation
Our respiratory therapists are graduates from accredited programs by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (COARC). They are credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care and licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. The department received the American Association for Respiratory Care APEX Recognition Award in 2023. This is the department’s second term as an APEX award recipient, and CHOP was one of only 18 acute care hospitals throughout the country to be recognized.
