Intestinal polyps are commonly removed during colonoscopy. A polyp is a growth on the surface of the colon.

During the colonoscopy, and while your child is asleep, a small wire loop — called a snare — is applied around the stalk of a polyp. Heat is applied to the snare to prevent bleeding, then the snare is closed which removes the polyp. If possible, the polyp is retrieved and sent to the pathology laboratory for analysis.
