NG GoLYTELY Cleanout
Nasogastric (NG) GoLYTELY® laxative cleanout is a treatment option for children with significant constipation, when other medications have been unsuccessful. It is also sometimes used in preparation for a colonoscopy. The most used laxative is called GoLYTELY (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution).
In this procedure, a thin flexible tube (similar in thickness to a spaghetti noodle) is inserted into your child’s nose and guided into the stomach. The GoLYTELY liquid is administered through the tube and goes through your child’s intestinal tract to clean the stool out. This process typically takes all day.
This outpatient intervention is only available at CHOP’s Main Campus.
