Liver Biopsy in Children

Liver Biopsy in Children

A liver biopsy is a procedure used to obtain a very small piece of your child's liver so it can be examined for disease.

After your child is asleep (by sedation) and under sterile conditions, a needle is inserted into your child's abdomen and used to obtain a small piece of your child's liver tissue. This tissue is sent to a laboratory to assist in establishing a diagnosis for your child.

This test is only available at CHOP’s Main Campus.

To learn more about liver diseases, see the Fred and Suzanne Biesecker Pediatric Liver Disease Center.
