Rental Resources from CHOP Lactation

When a child is admitted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) for special care, they may not be able to feed directly at the breast due to their healthcare needs. You may need to use an electric pump to start and/or maintain your milk production. A Medela SymphonyR double-electric breast pump will be available for you to use in the hospital.

Because you will likely need to pump outside of as well as in the hospital, you will need to have a breast pump at home too. If you already have a double electric breast pump, you may want to keep using your own pump for milk expression at home. If you do not have a personal pump or if you prefer the Medela Symphonypump you can rent a hospital-grade pump through the CHOP Lactation Rental Station.

Rental fees

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia offers hospital-grade Medela SymphonyR breast pumps at the following costs:

  • One month rental = $75
  • Three months = $200

Medela BabyWeigh™ II scales:

  • One week rental = $25
  • One month = $55

The pump accessory kit you have while your child is in the hospital is designed for use with the rental pumps. Additional pump accessory kits are available for purchase:

CHOP employees are eligible to purchase an accessory kit at a discounted fee.

Pump and scale rentals are available seven days per week with few exceptions. To contact CHOP Lactation Rental Station, please call 267-426-5325 or email lactation@chop.edu. We will arrange rental equipment pick-up and return appointments with you that work for your schedule.
