AMPS Multidisciplinary Consultative Clinic
Many patients seen at the Center for Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome are first evaluated in our Multidisciplinary Consultative Clinic.
At this visit, you and your child will meet members of the AMPS team – including a physician and/or physician assistant, psychologist, physical therapist and occupational therapist – for an initial assessment. The team will make individualized treatment recommendations for your child and determine next steps.
3 phases of treatment
Learn about the three distinct phases of AMPS treatment at CHOP, parents’ role in treatment, and how mental health, sleep, nutrition and typical activities play a role.
Most children will begin outpatient treatment services with follow-up in our pain clinic every 3-4 months. Outpatient treatment for amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome (AMPS) may include psychotherapy, an individualized aerobic exercise program, structured physical and occupational therapy services, introduction of desensitization techniques, creative arts therapy and school re-entry planning.
For patients who need more intensive treatment for AMPS, CHOP offers a therapeutic hospital treatment program.
