Description

The goals of this research study are to find out how having COVID-19 recently affects blood sugar, inflammation, and insulin in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We also want to see if COVID-19 changes blood vessel health or makes blood clot more easily. We will also look at how things like genes, lifestyle, and environment might affect these issues.

What to expect

Visit description:

Participants will have the following options:

  • Basic Engagement: Visit the study site in person at months 0, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24, fill out surveys (by phone, online, or in person), and give blood samples at each visit.
  • Moderate Engagement: Do all of the above and also take part in Mixed Meal Tolerance Tests (MMTT) at months 0, 3, 6, and 12. For these tests, participants will be asked to drink a special shake and have small amounts of blood drawn through an IV over 2 hours.
  • Extensive Engagement: Complete everything from Moderate Engagement, plus have an Arterial Stiffness test at months 0 and 12. This test involves lying on a table for about 30 minutes while sensors and a blood pressure cuff measure artery pulses. Additional tests will be done on previously collected blood samples (no extra blood needed).
