Immunology Laboratory
The Clinical Immunology Laboratory at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) offers a broad selection of standard as well as unique clinical assays performed by highly trained technologists. The lab offers numerous comprehensive, high-quality laboratory tests in the areas of immunology, oncology, hematology, rheumatology and gastroenterology. Our laboratory has a specific focus and expertise in pediatric immunodeficiencies as well as leukemia and lymphoma, where we offer specialized testing and interpretation.
The lab uses flow cytometry for immunophenotyping studies to characterize leukemias and lymphomas; to enumerate T, B, and natural killer cells along with their subsets to diagnosed severe combined immunodeficiencies (SCID) and combined immunodeficiencies; to measure oxidative burst of phagocytes for the diagnosis of chronic granulomatous disease (CGD); to screen for leukocyte adhesion deficiency (LAD); to screen for autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS); and to aid in the diagnosis of hereditary spherocytosis (HS).
Lymphocyte function can be assessed by mitogen or antigen stimulated lymphocyte cultures.
We offer measurement of immunoglobulin levels and assessment of antibody responses to specific vaccine antigens. Specific antibody markers for autoimmune disorders as well as allergy testing are also available.
Our goal is to work closely with our clinical and research colleagues to provide cutting-edge laboratory tests to expedite and aid in diagnostic patient care.
