About Edward J. Doolin, MD, FACS, FAAP
Dr. Doolin is an attending pediatric surgeon in the Division of General, Thoracic and Fetal Surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Director of the Pediatric Colorectal Program (formerly called the PACE Program). He also serves as a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
As a general surgeon, Dr. Doolin focuses his practice on a wide variety of pediatric conditions, with a special focus on the areas of thoracic, anorectal and airway surgery. He is also committed to the treatment and prevention of pediatric trauma.
Through his work with the Pediatric Colorectal Program at CHOP, Dr. Doolin is dedicated to advancing treatment for children with bowel management needs related to various anorectal and gastrointestinal conditions, including anorectal malformations or imperforate anus, Hirschsprung's disease, spina bifida, pelvic anomalies such as cloacal malformations, vaginal anomalies, pelvic injuries, constipation, fecal incontinence and more.
Dr. Doolin has published extensively in scientific journals and books, has served as a reviewer for peer-reviewed medical journals, and is a frequent presenter on topics related to advances in pediatric surgery and pediatric trauma management. He has also received grant support in studies related to Hirschsprung's disease.
Dr. Doolin earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore and his pediatric surgery fellowship at Children's Memorial Hospital of Chicago.
Dr. Doolin is also a staff member with Memorial Hospital of Burlington County in Mt. Holly, NJ, West Jersey Hospital in Voorhees, NJ, and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, NJ. He has held many teaching positions throughout his career, demonstrating his commitment to the education and advancement of pediatric surgery, for which he was recognized with the Dorothy and Sol Sherry Award for Teaching Excellence from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
