Thank You for Your Generosity to HHI
April 13, 2023

The Homeless Health Initiative (HHI) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia appreciates the generosity of individuals, groups and organizations that donate goods and supplies to families that reside in our partner shelters in and around Philadelphia.

We are grateful, and so are our families. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and kindness this past year.

Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Suburbs

  • Everyone who donated items to Lutheran Settlement House/Jane Addams Place and Women Against Abuse to help ease the stress, exhaustion and boredom experienced by families isolating due to COVID-19 in shelter, including Keystone First, Hilary Budny and Penn Community Champions.
  • Jackie Kelly and the Division of Dermatology for sharing personal hygiene products for sensitive skin with families at LSH/Jane Addams Place, HopePHL and Families Forward.
  • Katie McPeak, MD, for the generous donation of toiletries to the women at Gaudenzia House of Passage.
  • Yang Ding, MD, and Amy Davis, MD, for sharing business suits and housewares with families living in HopePHL’s Rowan House, transitional housing for survivors of intimate partner violence.
  • Brooke Silvers Cohen and her students at Greenfield Elementary School for organizing a donation drive to collect books and cleaning supplies for families at HopePHL and Salvation Army Norristown.
  • Everyone who donated to HHI’s Back to School donation drive for families living at HopePHL, LSH/Jane Addams Place, Families Forward Philadelphia and Women Against Abuse.
  • Abbe Stern, CHOP’s Food Pharmacy Manager, who rescued food so it could be donated to families living at Salvation Army’s Red Shield Family Residence.
  • Jennifer Tran for her generous donation of jarred baby food to families living at Salvation Army’s Red Shield Family Residence.

Thank you to everyone who selected HHI for their donations to HHI during CHOP’s 31-Day Challenge in May! We raised nearly $2,000!

A huge number of people, including many CHOP employees, donated to HHI’s 2022 holiday donation drive to benefit families living in:

  • Philadelphia — Families Forward Philadelphia, HopePHL, LSH/Jane Addams Place, Salvation Army Red Shield Family Residence, Women Against Abuse
  • New Jersey — HomeFront Family Preservation Campus
  • Suburbs: YWCA Bucks County and Friends Association of West Chester

Special thanks to Rebecca Lozada and CHOP’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Community Impact; Employee Resource Groups (ERG); and ERG community outreach officers for organizing CHOP-wide holiday donation drives and coordinating delivery!

HHI and HomeFront thank the many donors who responded to the needs of families. Baby formula, diapers, books, underwear, socks, art supplies, developmental toys, hygiene products, sports equipment, furniture and gift cards were some of the many items generously donated by many friends.

Special shout-outs go to Hilary Budny, Angella Bock, J.J. Cutuli, Matt Bennett and the St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church Women’s Philoptochos. We are also grateful for a March donation drive hosted by our friends at Chanel, King of Prussia Mall, which coordinated efforts from employees from Chanel and Neiman Marcus.
