Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Healthier Together program has received a $200,000 grant from Rite Aid Healthy Futures to expand access to healthy meals at daycares in West and Southwest Philadelphia. With this funding, Healthier Together will strengthen and expand support for daycares that are either participating in or seeking to participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
CACFP is a federally funded program that reimburses daycares for providing nutritious meals and snacks to children, supporting their overall wellness, growth, and development. This program aligns with the Healthier Together LEARN domain, which focuses on fostering nurturing, inclusive, and safe learning environments for children.
In partnership with the Reinvestment Fund, Healthier Together offers technical assistance to help daycares enroll in CACFP and serve healthier meals. This grant will go towards ensuring over 7,500 healthy meals per week are provided for children in West and Southwest Philadelphia.
“CACFP plays a vital role at improving the quality of daycare programs and promoting long-term financial sustainability of early childhood education centers,” said Vanesa Karamanian, M.D., Director of CHOP’s Healthier Together Initiative. “We are proud to partner with organizations like Rite Aid Healthy Futures and the Reinvestment Fund, whose shared commitment to health equity supports lasting change in the communities we serve.” “We’re honored to receive funding from Rite Aid Healthy Futures for the fifth year in a row,” Dr. Karamanian added.
The grant is part of Rite Aid Healthy Futures’ Connecting Communities program, which directs funding to anchor institutions like hospitals that promote community health for children. CHOP is one of 37 hospitals that received support for initiatives focused on children’s health and wellness.
