At CHOP, pediatric psychologists are specialized providers who work directly with our medical team. A urology psychologist (or uropsychologist) is a provider who specifically works with children and adolescents with urological conditions. Uropsychologists see a wide range of urology diagnoses, and the treatment they use is highly individualized to meet the needs of each patient and family.
The Division of Urology’s uropsychologist, Christina Rouse, PsyD, has been with the Division since 2018. Dr. Rouse works side by side with members of our clinical team, including our surgeons, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and child life specialists. This collaboration allows Dr. Rouse to help children improve their daily functioning in the context of their medical diagnoses, which include a range of concerns such as urinating, surgical reconstruction, spina bifida, and differences of sex development.
Families meet with Dr. Rouse both in person and via video if they live in a participating state that allows telehealth. Issues can include:
- Behavioral concerns that are getting in the way of successful toileting
- Preparation for surgery or procedures
- Anxiety surrounding medical treatment, medication or procedures
- Depression due to a chronic illness
- Adherence to a medical regimen
- Adjustment to a new diagnosis
- Parenting challenges and barriers caused by a urology diagnosis
Patients and families who wish to work with Dr. Rouse must be established within the Division of Urology at CHOP. If you feel that your child may need additional help with a urological concern, both medical and psychology appointments can be scheduled by calling 215-590-2754.
