On Friday, December 3, 2021, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visited our Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pediatric Care Center, where she met with families whose children had recently received the COVID-19 vaccine. The purpose of the visit was to educate the public about the importance of COVID-19 vaccines for children.
She was joined by Governor Tom Wolf and Representatives Brendan Boyle, Dwight Evans and Mary Gay Scanlon. Former Sixers player World B. Free and the Sixers mascot were also on hand to welcome her.
During Dr. Biden’s visit, Julia Sammons, MD, Assistant Vice President of CHOP’s Office of Preparedness, Prevention and Response, spoke about the impact the pandemic has had on children and about the CHOP team’s efforts to vaccinate our patients, our staff and others in the community. In total, we have vaccinated over 65,000 people against COVID-19 and have provided at least one dose of vaccine to 22,600 CHOP patients.
The Philadelphia Inquirer and CBS3 featured news stories about the event.
