Dr. Peter Phillips, former Section Chief of Neuro-Oncology and retired oncologist of our Cancer Center, was recently given the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) Pitcher of Hope Award, which honors someone at CHOP who has gone above and beyond to make an impact on the lives of the children treated in the Oncology Department.
Chief of the Division of Oncology, Dr. Stephen Hunger, presented the distinction while Ellen Tracy, Vice President and Associate Chief Nursing Officer, and Liz Scott, Alex's mother, also said a few words highlighting Dr. Phillip's extensive career and Alex's legacy. CHOP doctors, nurses, colleagues, as well as friends, were in attendance to support Dr. Phillips and Alex’s dream.
This marks 18 years of CHOP being a long-standing partner to the cause, hosting lemonade stands and selling t-shirts across oncology locations throughout the CHOP network. To date, ALSF has donated approximately $15 million to CHOP through philanthropic support and research grants with the goal to eradicate pediatric cancer.
