The Kidney Transplant Program at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) performed its first kidney transplant in March of 1993. Since then, we have grown to become one of the most active transplant programs in the world, with outcomes among the best in the nation. We are grateful to the patients and families who have placed their trust in us and all the team members who have provided excellent care.
Our team recently performed the 500th kidney transplant at CHOP. In honor of this remarkable milestone, the Division of Nephrology is raising funds to support patients as they transition from pediatric to adult care. Our vision is that every patient with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) receives the personalized, family-centered healthcare and resources to support them on the journey from childhood to adulthood, enabling them to thrive and reach their maximum potential.
Ways you can support
You can help us realize this vision by supporting our commitment to:
Reducing barriers to optimal care and promoting overall well-being
At CHOP, we are always working toward a more equitable healthcare system. Philanthropic funding can help us support our CKD patient families with the following:
- Assistance with financial and logistical barriers to healthcare for advanced CKD and transplant patients—such as transportation, parking and costs associated with long-term hospital stays
- Resource coordination and help navigating the complex healthcare system
- Educational sessions and support groups for patients, families and caregivers
- Personalized assistance for a gradual transition to adult care
Advancing clinical care and innovative research
We recognize that innovative research and an elevated standard of care go hand in hand, so we are always looking to fuel the latest clinical and research advancements. Future projects in this area might include:
- An in-clinic biopsy suite
- Streamlined laboratory support to permit easier blood and urine collection and the integration of novel assays into clinical care
- Mini grants to support promising research projects focused on reducing treatment burden and improving transplant access and long-term health outcomes
Enhancing our people power
To support these goals, we must cultivate and retain a diverse, knowledgeable and experienced workforce. Funding helps our team provide:
- Training, development and education for our staff
- Support for conferences and other professional development opportunities for advanced practice providers, dieticians, psychologists, pharmacists and more
