Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) ‘s Shakeeb Akhter, Senior Vice President (SVP) & Chief Information Officer (CIO), has been named to the Philadelphia Business Journal’s (PBJ) 2023 40 Under Forty list. The PBJ seeks nominations from the public for this annual award, which recognizes 40 remarkable individuals under the age of 40 who are leaving their mark in the community.

Winners were selected for their significant career impacts in the region and hail from a variety of professional backgrounds.

At the age of 38, Shakeeb became SVP and CIO at CHOP. He believes in using technology and data/analytics for good: to make care more accessible to the under-served, to reduce clinician burn-out, and ultimately provide the best experience and outcomes for patients.

In one year, Shakeeb and his Information Services (IS) team of 620+ have been successful in supporting both clinicians and patient families through the use of technology. In the words of one patient family on LinkedIn: “I cannot thank you enough for your groundbreaking work. We were so impressed by the real-time situational awareness amongst the treatment team.”

In addition to his role at CHOP, Shakeeb is dedicated to developing and building the Khair Community Center in Phoenixville, PA, which includes a mosque, Islamic community center, and full-time school.

When asked about the award, he noted, “I am humbled to be a part of this esteemed group of honorees. I am honored and blessed to receive this recognition and am thankful to all those who have supported me in my professional and personal growth. This award is not just a recognition of me, but a testament to the incredible teams that have supported me through my career and made my professional achievements possible.”

Winners will be celebrated at an event on May 11 and highlighted in a special edition of the Philadelphia Business Journal published on May 12. Learn more here.
