Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Truist Foundation to support a growing demand for telemedicine for patients and families at CHOP amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first month of CHOP’s COVID-19 response, CHOP rapidly scaled its telehealth program and conducted more telemedicine visits than the prior three years combined.
The Truist Foundation grant will help CHOP’s telehealth program increase capacity and create new, vital channels to reach patients in underserved communities who have inadequate access to technology and where English is a second language. The funding will allow CHOP to purchase devices to conduct more video visits, as well as provide Wi-Fi and data resources, including translation services, for patients and their families. The grant will also enable CHOP providers to handle more remote consultations locally and abroad, allowing families to limit travel and still receive the same high-quality care they would receive in person.
