How Esophageal Manometry Is Performed

Esophageal manometry is a procedure that measures pressure, sensation and coordination of the esophageal muscles. It also allows your child's physicians to look at the opening and closing of the muscles at the top and bottom of the esophagus. This test may be recommended if your child is having difficulty swallowing, pain when swallowing or is complaining of heart burn or chest pains. In this video for parents and caregivers, you'll learn about what you and your child can expect during this procedure and watch as it's performed on a medical mannequin.
