About Brendan A. Williams, MD

Brendan A. Williams, MD, is an attending orthopedic surgeon with the Orthopedic Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He specializes in the arthroscopic treatment of knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle conditions.

Dr. Williams’ philosophy of care is rooted in his love of mentoring and teaching. He works closely with families, giving parents information and children the tools they need to heal and improve.

“My desire to become a pediatric orthopedic surgeon was rooted in my experiences mentoring younger students. I believe it is a career with a similar potential to alter children’s lives and positively impact their future,” he says.

As a former collegiate sprinter, Dr. Williams has a special passion for caring for athletes of all ages and understands the rigors of participating in sports at a high level. He treats all types of orthopedic injuries, but has a special interest in the management of conditions unique to the growing athlete. Dr. Williams is also a member of the Running Medicine and Performance Clinic team at CHOP, helping to care for issues unique to this population.

Along with his work at CHOP, Dr. Williams is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He serves on the Educational Programs Committee of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), and is a member of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Emerging Leaders Program, as well as a number of other professional organizations.

In addition to his clinical role, Dr. Williams is involved with research examining the outcomes of reconstructive procedures for anterior cruciate ligament injuries and patellar dislocations as well as optimizing pain management practices and reducing opioid consumption following orthopedic procedures.

Outside of work, Dr. Williams enjoys running, basketball, dancing, hiking and travelling. His wife, Diana Montoya-Williams, MD, is a CHOP neonatologist. They have two young sons and a dog. The couple also serves on the board of directors of Children Beyond Our Borders, a nonprofit serving to educate, empower and improve the health and well-being of children locally and abroad.

About the Patient Experience Rating System

The Patient Experience Rating is an average of all responses to the care provider related questions shown above from our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Patients that are treated in outpatient or hospital environments may receive different surveys, and the volume of responses will vary by question. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. We are committed to true transparency. However, to ensure the comments are fair and correctly attributed, we review each one before posting to the website. We exclude entire comments that disclose patient’s protected health information, are off-topic, or include other confidential or inappropriate content. Comments will appear on provider bios only if providers have a minimum number of comments. Comments are shared internally for education purposes to ensure that we are doing our very best for the patients and families for whom we are privileged to care. The comments are submitted by patients and families and reflect their views and opinions. The comments are not endorsed by and do not reflect the views of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
