About Karen Ann Szczepanski, DO
Dr. Karen Szczepanski is an attending neonatologist at CHOP Newborn Care at Pennsylvania Hospital.
She received her undergraduate degree in Biology and Society from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, and earned her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Szczepanski completed her Pediatric Emphasis Osteopathic Rotating Internship at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then fulfilled her Pediatric Residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, and served as Chief Pediatric Resident during her final year. Dr. Szczepanski completed a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with an emphasis on research in hypoxia and heme oxygenase with Dr. Phyllis Dennery.
Dr. Szczepanski's clinical interests include persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, lung disease of term and preterm infants, and therapeutic hypothennia for hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. She has an interest in the long-term outcomes of newborns born both term and preterm and works with the CHOP Newborn Care at Pennsylvania Hospital Developmental Follow-Up Program. She also enjoys teaching and mentoring college and medical students interested in Neonatology.
