About Sameer Mittal, MD, MSc

Sameer Mittal, MD, MSc, FAAP, is an attending pediatric urologist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and assistant professor of urology and surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

After growing up in a suburb of New York City, Dr. Mittal received his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in biology and biochemistry. He obtained a master’s degree and medical doctorate from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his urologic surgery residency at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and then completed his pediatric urology surgical subspecialty training here at CHOP’s Division of Urology. In addition to surgical training, Dr. Mittal obtained training in clinical research at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Mittal has approached medicine with a focus on what is important to the patient and their family. “I will always strive to work with families to understand the problem so that we can come to a solution together,” he says.

As an active member in multiple professional societies, such as the American Urological Association, the Societies for Pediatric Urology, the Society for Fetal Urology and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Mittal focuses on the most up-to-date treatment options. “Pediatric urology has changed dramatically over the last two decades and it’s my goal to provide every child with the best treatment options tailored to them,” he says.

His research interests are broad within the field of pediatric urology and have included work in minimally invasive urologic reconstruction, hypospadias, pediatric oncology, differences in sex development and pediatric stone disease. In addition, he has focused heavily on data analytics to investigate care delivery and how quality improvement can ensure evidence-based medicine is being utilized for all of our patients.

“As a proud father, I am acutely aware of the stress involved with knowing your child needs medical care and possibly having to undergo surgery,” says Dr. Mittal. “My hope is that every parent knows that I will treat their child like my own. Seeing my patients thrive and get better is what gives me the strength and passion to do this job.”

About the Patient Experience Rating System

The Patient Experience Rating is an average of all responses to the care provider related questions shown above from our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Patients that are treated in outpatient or hospital environments may receive different surveys, and the volume of responses will vary by question. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. We are committed to true transparency. However, to ensure the comments are fair and correctly attributed, we review each one before posting to the website. We exclude entire comments that disclose patient’s protected health information, are off-topic, or include other confidential or inappropriate content. Comments will appear on provider bios only if providers have a minimum number of comments. Comments are shared internally for education purposes to ensure that we are doing our very best for the patients and families for whom we are privileged to care. The comments are submitted by patients and families and reflect their views and opinions. The comments are not endorsed by and do not reflect the views of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
