About Justin L. Lockman, MD, MSEd, FAAP
Justin L. Lockman, MD, MSEd attended The College of William and Mary in Virginia, followed by Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed medical training in Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, and Pediatric Anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and he maintains board certification in all four specialties. In addition, Dr. Lockman holds a master's degree in medical education from the University of Pennsylvania.Dr. Lockman is currently a Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Critical Care as well as Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Lockman serves as Associate Chair for Education for the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, and practices as an attending physician in both the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Operating Room at CHOP. His areas of clinical expertise include neuroanesthesia, difficult airway management, perioperative care of critically ill children, and care for patients with complex congenital heart disease undergoing non-cardiac surgery.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Lockman leads the Department's Education Council and ultimately is accountable for all education programming within the Department. His academic interests include simulation-based medical education, curriculum development, psychological safety, crisis resource management, and education leadership.
Dr. Lockman holds several current and prior national leadership roles in Pediatric Anesthesiology and has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and editorials as well as serving as editor-in-chief for a 12-book Pediatric Anesthesiology series. He has won several teaching awards at CHOP, and is a frequent speaker for local, regional, national and international invited lectures in his areas of expertise.
