David A. Hill, MD, PhD, FAAP

About David A. Hill, MD, PhD, FAAP

David A. Hill, MD, PhD, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatric allergist, immunologist, and attending physician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He is also an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Hill specializes in diagnosing and treating children with food allergies and asthma, and he is actively researching new diagnostic tools and cutting-edge treatments for children with these conditions.

Dr. Hill became a pediatrician and chose clinical allergy as his specialty because he feels that every child should have the opportunity to live a happy and healthy life – free from the cares and consequences of chronic disease. He strives to achieve this goal through direct pediatric patient care and his research program, as well as his academic and medical leadership roles.

Education and experience

Dr. Hill earned his bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, and his medical degree and Doctor of Philosophy from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn). He completed his pediatric residency training at CHOP, then served a 2-year term as a clinical fellow in the hospital’s Division of Allergy and Immunology.

After his intensive training, Dr. Hill accepted an instructorship at Penn and CHOP while he completed his post-doctoral research. He was promoted to assistant professor at Penn and attending physician at CHOP in 2019. Since then, Dr. Hill has continued his research as a principal investigator. The Hill Lab studies how diet and metabolism influence patients’ immune health and frequency of inflammatory disease.

Dr. Hill is actively involved in numerous professional and scientific societies including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He has published more than a hundred scientific papers, reviews and abstracts, presented at regional, national, and international meetings, and received several awards for the impact of his work.

Research

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hill oversees a team of researchers at CHOP and Penn. The Hill Lab studies how diet and metabolism influence immune health and inflammatory disease. The team has more than 10 ongoing studies that range from investigations of the fundamental mechanism of disease to clinical trials. Under Dr. Hill's direction, physicians and scientists are working together to translate discoveries in the laboratory into improved patient care for children at the bedside.
