About Karl F. Godlewski, MD

Dr. Godlewski’s journey to pediatric urology began with an academic foundation that blended critical thinking with a deep understanding of science. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in economics with a minor in biology from Georgetown University. His education there fostered an understanding of complex systems that would later prove invaluable in his medical career. He went on to earn his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society, reflecting his excellence in both academics and compassionate patient care.

Following medical school, Dr. Godlewski completed his surgical internship and urology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he distinguished himself as a top performer. He was awarded the Howard Pollack Award for achieving the highest In-Service Exam (ISE) score and rank within the Division of Urology at Penn Medicine. He also won first prize in the Philadelphia Urologic Society Debate in 2020, further demonstrating his depth of knowledge and analytical skill.

Dr. Godlewski pursued a fellowship at CHOP, where he trained under experts in the pediatric urology field. His primary research interests—hypospadias and bladder exstrophy—have led him to explore innovative approaches in machine learning hypospadias, reoperative hypospadias, penile chordee and complete primary repair of exstrophy. He has also been instrumental in developing an informational pathway for bladder exstrophy patients, ensuring that families have clear, compassionate guidance throughout their journey.

Beyond these specialties, Dr. Godlewski brings extensive experience in all facets of pediatric urology, including robotic surgery—both standard and complex. His meticulous approach to surgery is matched only by his dedication to his patients.

When Dr. Karl F. Godlewski walks into a patient’s room, he carries with him the expertise honed through years of training and the guiding wisdom of his late mentor, Dr. Douglas Canning: “Start with the child, and go from there.” It’s a philosophy that shapes every aspect of his work. Throughout his interactions, Dr. Godlewski strives to make patients feel heard. He listens first, making sure each child and family feels understood.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Godlewski serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Urological Association and the Society of Pediatric Urology.

Dr. Godlewski currently sees patients with all urologic conditions at CHOP’s Philadelphia campus, King of Prussia campus and our satellite location in Princeton, New Jersey.
