About Jan Boswinkel, MD
Dr. Boswinkel serves as the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Hospital Operations at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). In this capacity, he oversees various facets of hospital operations on the Philadelphia Campus and in the Middleman Family Pavilion in King of Prussia, as well as hospital-based services such as Radiology and the Clinical Laboratories. Additionally, he is responsible for the operations of multiple clinical service lines.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Boswinkel held the role of Chief Operating Officer at the Middleman Pavilion, where he played a pivotal role in planning CHOP’s second hospital and led the team responsible for its successful launch in January 2022.
Dr. Boswinkel served as Chief Safety Officer and Vice President of Medical Operations, assuming executive responsibility for patient safety and various clinical-operational services. Notably, he led the clinical planning efforts for the new inpatient tower on CHOP’s Philadelphia Campus.
Dr. Boswinkel is a board-certified practicing pediatric hospitalist with a medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency at CHOP, where he also held leadership roles in the Department of Pediatrics, including as section chief of inpatient services in the Division of General Pediatrics and as member of the department’s Executive Committee.
Originally from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Dr. Boswinkel transitioned to medicine following a successful nine-year career in the financial markets in London and New York, where he served as Vice President of Cross Markets Proprietary Trading at JP Morgan.
