What is neonatal hepatitis?
Neonatal hepatitis is inflammation of the liver that occurs within the first few months of life. The condition can occur for various reasons, but most often the cause is unknown or suspected to be from a virus.
Management of neonatal hepatitis depends on its cause. At The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, babies with neonatal hepatitis are treated jointly by neonatologists, gastroenterologists (GI), and hepatologists.
