About Susan B. Williams, MSN, RNC-NIC, CIT

Susan Williams is the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) ECMO Center Clinical Specialist and ECMO Manual Coordinator.  She earned an MSN in Innovation and Intra/Entrepreneurship Advanced Practice Nursing with a minor Certificate in Complimentary Integrative Therapies (CCIT) from Drexel University in 2018.  Sue is a seasoned, expert ICU nurse with a passion for ECMO innovation with Magnet RNC-NIC certification since 2003.  Her over three decades of intensive care nursing experience began in the Neonatal/Infant Intensive Care Unit (N/IICU) at CHOP in 1987 and she was involved with the inception of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) at CHOP in 1990.

Her role of ECMO Center Clinical Specialist includes multidisciplinary education, ECMO Primer & Specialist competency education, interprofessional simulation development and facilitation, hospital policy and procedure development and editor, equipment ordering and inventory and Quality and Safety Improvement projects. Sue has authored numerous ECMO-related Professional Posters and podium presented at regional and international (Guangzhou, China) ECMO, ELSO and perfusion meetings, in addition to publishing in several nursing, medical and ECMO peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. She is also involved with several animal lab research projects that utilize ECMO concepts at CHOP on IRB's as a content expert.
