About Rodney M. Camire, PhD

Dr. Rodney M. Camire is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Perelman School of Medicine at The University of Pennsylvania and a member of the Division of Hematology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He is also a member of the Raymond G. Perelman Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics.

Rodney currently holds Children’s Hospital Endowed Chair in Hematology Research. His laboratory is interested in the molecular and cellular processes that contribute to and regulate blood coagulation and has over 15 years of experience studying the biochemistry of clotting factors. His laboratory has developed several novel clotting factors which are in preclinical/clinical development for the treatment of hemophilia and bleeding and he holds over 15 patents. In addition to translational work, his laboratory is interested in questions related to the enzymology, biochemistry and molecular genetics of enzyme complexes of blood coagulation with an emphasis on factors X, V, FIX and VIII.

He has been funded from the NIH since 2003 and has published over 60 primary and review articles related to blood coagulation. Dr. Camire is as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and is active with a variety of organizations sitting on the board of directors of the North American Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis and Thrombosis and Hemostasis Societies of North America. He received his B.A. from Saint Anselm College and his PhD in biochemistry from The University of Vermont.
