VEO-IBD Resources for Professionals
If you are a physician seeking an evaluation for a patient with suspected Very Early Onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (CHOP) VEO-IBD Program is here to help. We will work with you to schedule a comprehensive evaluation for your patient as soon as possible.
To discuss a potential referral, schedule a comprehensive evaluation or seek a second opinion, please call 215-590-7423 or email VEOIBDCenter@email.chop.edu. If you feel a patient needs to be seen more urgently than scheduled, let us know and we will work with you.

Before the visit
After completing an intake with your patient’s family, our clinic coordinator will work with you to obtain the information below, which you can fax to 267-426-9001:
Referring physician/healthcare provider information
- Name
- Contact information (including cell phone)
Patient information
- Name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Phone number(s)
- Summary of medical history leading to referral with most recent and presenting labs
- All gastroenterology office notes
- Endoscopy/colonoscopy reports and pathology
- Any imaging already performed including, but not limited to, ultrasounds, MRI/MRE, CTE
- If the patient has seen immunology, all offices notes and labs
After the information and records are obtained, our clinic coordinator will contact the family to schedule a visit in VEO-IBD Program.
Prior to the child's visit, the clinic coordinator will confirm appointments for the day, provide directions and assist with any other needs.
After the visit
Our team will send a consultation report within one week of your patient’s visit and will be available to review recommendations and collaborate on a care plan. If you have any concerns or questions, please call our program and our clinic coordinator will assist you.
We are happy to collaborate with you for ongoing VEO-IBD clinical care for your patient once he or she is seen by our program. If you are interested in ongoing, long-term collaboration, it is often helpful for the patient to continue to be seen at CHOP VEO-IBD Program at least every 6 months so we can stay-up-to-date on the child's clinical progress.
Insurance and financial matters
Our Program's team is experienced working with many different insurance plans to facilitate care for families who seek our services. This process may take time depending on the insurance plan, but we are always happy to discuss individual situations and connect your patient with CHOP financial counselors.
