Core Lab - Chemistry Laboratory

The Chemistry Laboratory offers a wide range of testing to aid patient diagnosis, treatment, and care. Our services cover a multitude of pathophysiologies related to proteins, carbohydrate metabolism, bone metabolism, kidney function, liver function, clinical enzymology, clinical endocrinology, acid-base balance disorders, electrolytes, therapeutic drug monitoring, and clinical toxicology.

Testing in the Chemistry Laboratory is performed on highly automated analyzers utilizing spectrophotometry, immunoassays, mass spectrometry, and other methods to assess a variety of analytes:

  • Clinical Chemistry testing on carbohydrates, electrolytes, enzymes, lipids, proteins, hormones, therapeutic drugs, and toxicology testing. Our most common panels are listed below.
  • Special Chemistry testing on blood lead levels using the inductively-coupled plasma/mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) method.
  • Blood gas testing on blood pH, blood gas tensions, electrolytes, and other critical care tests, such as glucose, lactate, ionized calcium, co-oximetry, and osmolarity.
