Why Choose CHOP's Movement Disorder Program?
If your child has a complex condition that impacts the way they move and control their body, it can be challenging for your whole family. We want you to know that at the Movement Disorders Program at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), their health is in the hands of an experienced team that's able to provide all the care they may need.
The Movement Disorders Program offers your child several distinct advantages:
- Multidisciplinary clinic. The members of your child's care team will be selected based on your child's specific needs. It may include specialists from neurology, neurosurgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, among others. This team collaborates in clinic to evaluate your child and determine their needs and the most appropriate treatment for them. They will communicate with you at every step.
- Expertise. Our team has a deep level of understanding when it comes to these complex conditions. Our team is uniquely experienced in their management.
- Individualized treatment. We work with patients and their families to create a personalized management plan that is uniquely tailored to each patient’s needs. We offer the full range of nonsurgical and surgical treatment options.
- Continuity of care. We partner with Penn Medicine. Their nationally recognized adult Movement Disorders Center helps us ensure a smooth transition from pediatric to adult care.
- Surgical nurse navigator. For children who need surgery, we have a dedicated Neuroscience Nurse Navigator. She serves as a main point of contact, supporting families throughout the course of care. She works closely with the clinical team and guides families through the treatment process. She assesses needs and communicates important updates and medical information.
