Infant Single Ventricle Monitoring Program

Our Infant Single Ventricle Monitoring and Management Program (ISVMP) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) provides specialized care for babies born with single ventricle heart defects between two necessary heart repair procedures. The ISVMP is part of the full spectrum of care available for children with single ventricle and other complex congenital heart defects – from prenatal diagnosis to adulthood.

This period between the first two operations of staged reconstruction is known as the interstage period. The goal of our program is to prevent life-threatening events during this vulnerable time.

In the ISVMP, your family will receive:

  • Comprehensive management and monitoring at home
  • Education for everyone involved in your baby’s care
  • Increased communication between our Cardiac Center and your community healthcare team
  • Support to reduce stress and anxiety and improve quality of life for your baby and your family
