Scott Lorch, MD, attending neonatologist and Associate Chief of the Division of Neonatology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), was recently invited by the Secretary of Health and Human Services of the United States, Xavier Becerra, to serve as a member of the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Advisory Committee on Infant and Maternal Mortality (ACIMM) for a four-year term.
ACIMM advises the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on department activities, partnerships, policies, and programs directed at reducing infant mortality, maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity, and improving the health status of infants and women before, during, and after pregnancy.
As the Associate Chief and Director of Clinical and Epidemiological Research of the Division of Neonatology at CHOP, Dr. Lorch’s research focuses on racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities of care, perinatal outcomes, access to high-quality hospitals, and the role of health care organizations relating to the outcomes of ill children.
"I am thrilled to serve on this prestigious Committee,” said Dr. Lorch, who is the Kristine Sandberg Knisely Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at The University of Pennsylvania. “It’s a privilege to serve and provide guidance on the policies, programs and resources in addressing the disparities and inequities in maternal health and infant mortality.”
