On a September Sunday on the Ben Franklin Parkway, nearly 8,000 supporters – comprising of more than 275 teams – participated in CHOP Cancer Center’s largest fundraiser, the Parkway Run & Walk, presented by Citadel Credit Union. Funds raised totaled more than $1.95 million which will go to directly supporting pediatric research and care for those battling cancer.
Patients and families come to CHOP from around the globe to receive the best pediatric cancer care from some of the world’s top clinicians. A hallmark event, the Parkway Run & Walk is a poignant finale as part of the Cancer Center’s efforts to raise funds and awareness during September’s National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
“Each year, thousands of participants converge on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, many with signs and t-shirts dedicated to children in the community with cancer,” said Dr. Stephen Hunger, Chief of the Division of Oncology and Director of the Center for Childhood Cancer Research at CHOP. “The Parkway Run & Walk is a time of celebration and reflection, and an opportunity for our clinical team of doctors, nurses and staff from the Cancer Center to reconnect with patients and their families. The funding generated from this momentous event is critical in our fight to conquer pediatric cancer and we thank all those who are with us on this mission.”
"As Presenting Sponsor, Citadel Credit Union is proud to support CHOP’s Parkway Run & Walk, an event that brings together our community with a shared goal of conquering childhood cancer. Each year, we are inspired by the strength and resilience of the patients and families who come together for this cause. The funds raised during this event will help drive critical research and care, providing hope and healing for so many. We are honored to play a role in advancing CHOP’s mission and are deeply committed to making a lasting impact in the lives of children throughout the region,” said Bill Brown, President & CEO of Citadel Credit Union.
