Preparing for respiratory virus season

On Aug. 27, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are hosting a webinar titled, “Prepare Your Clinics and Patients for Fall and Winter Respiratory Virus Season.” The presentation will include information about immunizations, treatments, and other tools that can be used to protect pediatric patients. RSV, influenza and COVID-19 will be included in the discussion, and a facilitated Q&A will be part of the event.

The Relationship Between Cancer and the HPV Vaccine, with Dr. Linda Eckert 

FACTSinnated is a podcast offered by Unity Consortium, an organization focused on preventive health and immunization for adolescents and young adults. The July 29, 2024, episode featured an interview with Dr. Linda Eckert, a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Adjunct Professor in Global Health with an Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Washington. During the episode, Dr. Eckert discussed the importance of HPV vaccine and its role in preventing cervical cancer. She also shared highlights from her book, Enough: Because We Can Stop Cervical Cancer, including her experience diagnosing and treating patients with cervical cancer. Dr. Eckert also shared her passion and tips related to increasing understanding of the preventable nature of cervical cancer and the impact that HPV infections can have on a patient’s health when they are treated for cervical cancer, such as infertility, bowel and bladder damage, radiation side effects and chronic pain. The episode concluded with information about how Dr. Eckert counsels families with questions about HPV vaccine.
