On the Bookshelf: Vaccines and Your Family, Separating Fact from Fiction, by Paul A. Offit and Charlotte A. Moser
September 24, 2024

Dr. Paul Offit and Charlotte Moser, the Director and Co-director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, wrote a book released this month. Vaccines and Your Family: Separating Fact from Fiction, second edition, is an update of a 2011 version of the book that focused only on childhood vaccines (Vaccines and Your Child). The updated book is an invaluable resource for many audiences: parents learning more about vaccines for their children, adults who want more information on their own vaccine needs, and healthcare providers who need answers to challenging questions posed by patients and families. In an era where misinformation is pervasive, this book addresses the misinformation head-on in a question-and-answer format to distill fact from fiction.

The book is easy to navigate and takes readers directly to their question of interest. Questions are grouped into sections including general questions, safety, ingredients, the immune system, and practical considerations. The second part of the book reviews individual vaccines and the diseases they prevent in the order they are received through the lifespan, including information on newer vaccines like COVID-19, mpox and RSV. Finally, the book includes references in each section as well as additional resources so readers can review original source material.

The book is available from common booksellers and through the publisher. Find out more or see where to get the book today.
