Profound autism
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently published statistics that distinguish a subgroup of autistic individuals as profoundly affected. The notion of separating out this group has been met with controversy within autism-interested circles. However, those who support the move point out that the spectrum of affected individuals is vast and that more severely affected individuals require different resources. Find out more:
- The Prevalence and Characteristics of Children With Profound Autism, 15 Sites, United States, 2000-2016 – CDC
- What Is Profound Autism? – Child Mind Institute
- Autism Science Foundation – a resource that helps families navigate a diagnosis and funds relevant research on autism and related issues
VIS updates
The CDC recently updated vaccine information statements (VISs) for hepatitis B and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines. Both are interim versions. As a reminder, VISs are required for each vaccine dose given. Make sure you are using the latest versions:
- Hepatitis B vaccine, 5/12/2023
- Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, 5/12/2023
