About Jeffrey A. Seiden, MD

Jeffrey A. Seiden, MD, MHA, is the Medical Director of Urgent Care at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

Dr. Seiden has worked at CHOP since 2006. His favorite part of seeing patients in urgent care is “the ability to quickly forge relationships and establish trust with families so that their child is cared for effectively and compassionately” in a moment that is often high-stress for both parent and child. “I want families to feel that, despite meeting me for the first time in a hectic care environment, I am fully focused on and invested in their child’s health and well-being.”

“While I have had many different interests throughout my life, nothing is more rewarding than being involved in the care of a child,” Dr. Seiden says. “The privilege of being trusted to help families with their children's health is what drew me to pediatrics.”

Dr. Seiden has written chapters and lectured nationally on many topics in Pediatric Emergency and Urgent Care, including fever in infants and toddlers, bronchiolitis, asthma, head injury, appendicitis and abdominal trauma.

Dr. Seiden underscores the need for a pediatric-focused urgent care. “Kids aren’t just little adults; they have unique healthcare needs. Our teams are equipped to meet those needs across the spectrum of pediatric healthcare from annual well-visits to specialty referrals for specific needs to urgent and emergency care when an urgent issue strikes.”

After more than a decade on the job, is there anything that still surprises him? “I am constantly amazed by the resilience of children, and their ability to put a smile on my face,” he says.

CHOP’s pediatric Urgent Care Centers provide fast, convenient care for children and teens with non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries. Typically, these are situations when your child can’t wait until the pediatrician’s office is open, but they don’t need the resources of an emergency department (ED). Urgent Care Centers are staffed by board-certified pediatricians and pediatric nurses with expertise in caring for children with urgent healthcare needs. The facilities offer onsite X-rays and testing to help with fast diagnosis and treatment plans.
