September 24, 2012 — Victoria Vetter, MD, FAAP, FACC, pediatric cardiologist and medical director of Youth Heart Watch at CHOP, testified before the New Jersey Senate Education Committee.

Dr. Vetter spoke in support of the Scholastic Student-Athlete Safety Act (Senate Bill 1912), which emphasizes the importance of a pre-participation physical examination for early identification of conditions that cause sudden cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, not all children have warning signs and symptoms, but knowing the right questions to ask and the meaning of the answers is essential.
