CHOP Earns Third Magnet Designation
January 27, 2014 — CHOP received its third Magnet designation, a coveted status that is awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Hospitals attain Magnet status by going through a rigorous voluntary application process that focuses on the attainment of excellent patient outcomes that are directly influenced by the excellent care provided by nurses.
Magnet organizations must show that their nursing outcomes are better than comparison national benchmarks in several dimensions, including patient falls, hospital-acquired pressure ulcers, healthcare-acquired infections, pediatric pain management and peripheral IV complications. Magnet organizations must also exceed national benchmarks for patient and family satisfaction, as well as nurse satisfaction.
There are currently 397 Magnet-designated facilities; only 76 of these organizations have been designated three or more times. CHOP is one of only 24 facilities in Pennsylvania with this prestigious designation.
